Science
This week we will hear the story ‘The Giant Turnip’ and do a project illustrating the life cycle of a turnip. We will also be learning a little about conservation in honor of Earth Day last week.
Our objectives will be to:
- understand that seeds are the beginning of new turnip plants
- explain that turnips grow when they have water and light, and can grow to be different sizes
- identify the root of a turnip, and understand that the turnip’s roots and leaves are eaten by people
- understand ways that you can be a conservationist
History & Geography
This week we will hear two stories: ‘The Little Gray Pony’ and ‘The Merry Wives’. We will be listening for different tradespeople in each. You will have a chance to play a game to help you remember about the tradespeople you have learned about.
Our objectives will be to:
- recognize the necessity of heating objects before a blacksmith can shape them
- identify reasons why people who lived in the country traveled to town
- describe the different kinds of tradespeople in colonial towns
- identify and associate with the appropriate trade, the tools used by colonial tradespeople
- describe the tailor, carpenter, and blacksmith in a colonial town
