If you’re searching for summer fun that will help your child continue practicing SPANISH, here is the ultimate guide for you.
Take a look to find amazing Spanish recommendations for books, videos, music, games, and more! Carve in some time each day for Spanish language practice for the biggest impact. Aim for even 15-20 minutes each day to keep Spanish learning fresh in your child’s mind!
And try to integrate Spanish practice into your child’s daily routine in an enjoyable and sustainable way. So much of what your child is already doing can be switched to Spanish (listening to music, reading, or screen time) – when you have the right, engaging resources. Enjoy making some fun family memories together this summer – and encouraging your child’s love for Spanish!
Preschool and Elementary Students
Spanish Reading (15-20 Minutes EVERY day)
Keep up your child’s Spanish reading skills with Spanish books from your local library, or one of these incredible reading resources.
- Maguaré My top recommendation for reading in Spanish online – so much more than books, it has videos, audiobooks, music, and games
- Unite for Literacy A gold mine resource for primary students wanting to read books online (Change the language to SPANISH.)
- Story Place Spanish books for beginning readers with fun activities and at-home projects
- Story Weaver Books of a variety of levels available in Spanish or bilingual Spanish-English
- The Fable Cottage Spanish stories for children with accompanying audio and video
- Explora Spanish online magazine articles for kids covering a range of kid-enticing themes
- Epic! Join free for 30 days (books, ebooks, and videos)
Tips to maximize summer reading:
- Start your reading routine from the first week – kids are used to reading daily at school, so keep it going to minimize pushback later
- Keep your child motivated to read. Create a challenge/goal.
- Make it a family priority – sit down and enjoy your own book or magazine with your child
- Read aloud to your child as well – enjoy a more difficult book series in which you can explore advanced vocabulary and themes
- Plan regular trips to the library for new books and special events (get your child their own library card for extra fun!)
- Involve your child in real-life reading practice – making a recipe together, helping to read the grocery list, reading a letter you receive in the mail, etc.
Don’t just read a book. Stop and think, discuss, connect. Use these strategies to improve reading comprehension.
