This week we continued with Nursery Rhymes/ Rimas Infantiles. We worked with Estrellita, ¿dónde estás?/ Twinkle, twinkle little star.

This was a fun rhyme for the kids. Playing with Spanish Rhymes, children explore the mechanism of language while building their vocabulary and developing sounds. We had fun with different activities related to the rhyme Estrellita, ¿dónde estás?/ Twinkle, twinkle, little star. We sang songs, made shining star crowns, and drew a city or houses with a blue sky, moon and stars in the sky. They were very excited doing these activities and sang the songs throughout the crafts.

This week during our letter study we learned all about the letter Ff/ letra F f. Be sure to point out this when you are reading or when you are out and about. The English letter name can be pronounced as, F (ef). While the Spanish letter name is; F (eh feh). Some examples of Spanish words beginning with the letter F are: foca/seal, foco/lightbulb, fútbol/soccer, falda/skirt, frío/cold.
We also worked with the number 11. The kids did an excellent job counting 1 through 11. We did different activities with this number such as counting and recognizing the number through dots, as well as combining playing dice.
The Wednesday morning class also had the very fun experience of joining the Kindergarten music class with el señor Kit. It was a blast!!! (Señor Kit has been a bilingual teacher for….a very long time. He currently is the SWS music teacher but he also does a great job filling in for our Spanish teachers, as needed. He has also previously been a long-term preschool substitute for us. We plan to have him teach the Monday/Wednesday AM class for a few weeks when Maestra Mackey has her baby. Having the Wednesday class join the music class is a great way to introduce the children to him so they are comfortable during the brief time Maestra Mackey is gone.)
This week, we had a wonderful time with out Nursery Rhymes/ Rimas Infantiles unit. We worked with Itzi, Bitzi Araña/ Itzy, Bitzy Spider. There are several different versions so we thought we would share with you the exact one we worked with this week.

This was a fun short rhyme for the kids to act out and recite. Playing with Spanish Rhymes, children explore the mechanism of language, while also building vocabulary and developing sounds. We did different activities related with the Itzi, Bitzy Arana/ Itzy Bitsy Spider Rhyme. The students all had a great time singing this song (over and over!) while we did different spider crafts and activities.

Our letter focus for the week was the letter D, la letra Dd. Be sure to point out the letter of the week when you are reading. The English letter name is said as /dē/ while the Spanish pronunciation is; D (dā). Some of our special letter words this week were:

delantal/apron
diez/ten
dientes/tooth
We also focused on the number 10. How many different ways can your child from groups of 10? Different colored legos or blocks are great to use for this.
This short week, we began our new unit on Nursery Rhymes/ Rimas Infantiles. We worked with EL Payaso/The Clown. (Cuando el payaso esta feliz, se le cae la nariz). It was a fun short rhyme for the kids. Playing with Spanish Rhymes, children explore the mechanism of language. Rhyme also help the kids to build vocabulary and develop sounds distinction/ recognition. We did different activities related to El Payaso/The Clown Rhyme such as as; we sang songs, we made a clown, puzzles, and clown’s hat.

This week we reviewed the consonants we have covered so far this year. Mm, Nn, Ss,Pp, and Tt /las letras Mm, Nn, Ss, Pp, and Tt. The English letters, can be pronounced as, M (em), N (en), P (pi), S (es), and T(ti). While the Spanish pronunciation is; M(eme), N(ene), S(ese), P (pe), and T (te). Some examples, mama/mother, manzana, apple. Nido/nest, naranja/ orange. Sopa/soup, sandia/watermelon. Papa/father, pelota/ball. Tomate/tomato, tortuga/turtle.
We also worked with the number 10 doing different activities such as counting 1-10 using stickers, dots, counting objects, counting how many shapes they find. Also, they worked tracing the number 10. We sang songs related to the number 10 and letters Mm, Nn, Ss, Pp and Tt.
What a great week! This week we continued with celebrations.
Monday and Tuesday we learned about the Kwanzaa celebration and then continued the rest of the week with Cuentos Clasicos de Navidad / Classic Christmas Stories. Rodolfo El Reno / Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer was a particular favorite for the students. We also tried to show that Holidays give us a wonderful opportunity to share with others and the opportunity to learn our different traditions. The kids were really exited learning a little bit of this Classic Christmas Stories. It is amazing to see how they enjoy the stories. We worked with different activities doing Kwanzaa crafts and Christmas crafts (Ornaments, Santa Claus, and Reindeer).

This week we learned all about the letter Nn /la letra Nn. We also reviewed the number 9/ nueve. Be sure to point out this letter and number when you see them on signs, in stores, or when you are reading. The English letter name is said N(en). While the Spanish letter name is N (ene). The letter N makes the same sound in both English and Spanish.

The kiddos are doing a good job counting 1 through 9. We had fun with different activities throughout the week. One activity, which can also be reinforced at home, is counting and recognizing the number through dots with different colors (1= green, 2= baby blue, 3=orange, 4=purple, 5=red, 6=yellow, 7=pink, 8=brown, and 9=blue.) Everyone also really enjoys forming groups of a number using 9 stickers! The purpose of these number projects is to help the kiddos recognize the number as well as counting up to the number.
We sang a lot of songs related to the number 9 and letter Nn. I’m sure you will hear some of our classroom songs during the winter vacation.
What a great week! This week continued learned about celebrations from around the world. We specifically learned about Hanukkah celebrations and Cuentos Clásicos de Navidad / Classic Christmas Stories and El Árbol de Navidad /Christmas Tree. We read about different ways holidays are celebrated. These great stories show values, generosity and how sharing with others are so important.
We like to read a few different stories about our topics to provide different examples for the students. We also had a great time doing different activities for this topic.
Monday and Tuesday we continued learning about the Januca/Hanukkah traditions. Holidays give us a wonderful opportunity to share Jewish traditions and histories. One of our students was very proud to share how his family celebrates this holiday.
The rest of the week we discussed the tradition of Christmas tree. The kiddos were really exited to learning a little bit of the Classic Christmas Stories. It is amazing to see how they enjoy the stories and share their own family traditions with their classmates. Every family celebrates in their own way, with some similarities and some differences.

Our letter focus for the week was the letter Tt /la letra Tt. This letter makes the same sound in both English and Spanish. We form the letter, like most letters, from the top down, then cross. Some specific words we worked with from our letter tubs were:
We have fun passing these items around, singing about them, listening for the letter T. Does anyone in your family have the letter T in their name? Write out your names and have your kiddo look for the letter T. Also, pause when reading a story and do a letter search on certain pages (that happen to have a few letter Ts.)
Our number focus for the week was the number 9 / nueve. The kiddos are funny and get confused during our daily weather and want to say nueve for snow/nieve. We are trying to help them distinguish the difference in the sound.
Forming groups of nueve, counting up to nueve, identifying the number 9 are all ways to reinforce our number concepts/knowledge.
This week Monday and Tuesday we started learning all about Cuentos Clasicos de Navidad / Classic Christmas Stories (Christmas Carol). We read about different ways that the children have learned values such as generosity and sharing with others. The students practiced these concepts with different examples and activities using this topic.
Wednesday and Thursday we learned about the Januca/Hanukkah tradition. Holidays give us a wonderful opportunity to learn about our differences and similarities. We were able to share a Jewish tradition and histories (with Hanukkah starting December 6th this year). The kids were really exited learning a little bit of this amazing and beautiful history. We worked with different activities, doing a crown and star of David.

This week we introduced the letter Pp /la letra Pp. Be sure to point out the letter that we practice when you are reading. The English letter Pp. The letter name can be pronounced in English P(pi). While the Spanish letter name pronunciation is P (pe). Examples: puerco/pig, pavo/turkey, pelota/ball, perro/dog. The letter sound pronunciation is virtually the same in English and Spanish. (There is less air in the Spanish pronunciation – non-aspirated.)
This week we also had fun working with the number 8 doing different activities such as counting through balls and stickers. As well, they worked tracing the number 8. We were singing songs related with number 8 and letter Pp.
This week the preschool classes continued working with El Pasado/Past y El Presente/Present. We read about different examples of daily life in the USA during the Colonial Age. We also discussed their grandparents and how things might have been when they were growing up.
We made comparisons between the past and the student’s actual life. They all did a great job with this. We used quite a variety of different types of examples and activities during all our explorations. It was great fun recognizing different things of the past and present.
Letras y Números
We had a great time with the letters Mm and Ss / la letra Mm y Ss. The letter S and the letter M make the same sounds in Spanish as they do in English. Some sample words we used to practice beginning sounds were silencio/silence, sopa/soup and serpiente/snake. The children also did a great job recognizing the Ss sound in their numbers. Seis y siete.
Some of our M words this week were mother/mamá, hand/mano, butterfly/mariposa, bat/murciélago.
For our number focus this week we worked with the numbers 1-7 doing quite a few activities. We used our counting skills during a Thanksgiving project doing a turkey/ pavo. All the students were very excited to do this project. You might notice your child singing a lot. We sang a LOT this week, especially songs related with numbers 1-7 and letters Mm and Ss.
